Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is located at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers in the heart of North America. The city of Winnipeg is situated 60 miles North of the Canada/United States border.
Winnipeg is a multi-cultural city with a population of approximately 650,000. It is home to many museums, galleries and festivals. Winnipeg also offers a vast variety of restaurants to suits everyone’s needs.
Winnipeg, Manitoba is home to three professional sports teams: the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern Baseball League and the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.
From the Festival du Voyageur in the winter to the Folklorama in the summer, there is always something going on to suit your needs. The success of these festivals has been achieved with the city of Winnipeg’s amazing volunteers.
Winnipeg has some to the most beautiful parks in the country. Assiniboine Park is home to the zoo and to the annual Canada Day celebrations. Kildonan Park has some of the oldest trees in Winnipeg and offers live theatre at the Rainbow Stage, Canada’s oldest outdoor theatre.
Winnipeg is also becoming quite famous for its movie productions, earning the nickname “Hollywood North”.
The city’s nightlife offers many different bars and cabarets. If you are interested in gambling, there is Assiniboia Downs which offers live and simulcast racing along 140 video lottery terminals (VLT’s). Winnipeg, Manitoba has two casinos: Club Regent Casino which has a walk through aquarium and the Royal Palms restaurant; McPhillips Street Station has fine dining with Michelle’s restaurant and has a simulated ride, the Millennium Express which looks back at the history of Manitoba. Both casinos also offer concerts at various times along with New Year’s Eve celebrations.
